What you'll learn

Overview

During the course, you’ll critically evaluate and synthesise your understanding of a range of theoretical and philosophical perspectives related to creative environments, pedagogies, policy and practice, including Waldorf Education.

You’ll also consider local, national and international perspectives and critically analyse concepts such as equity and social justice, wellbeing and sustainability.

The programme upholds the professional and progressive standards of Waldorf Education as well as actively referencing a diversity of research and practice in creative pedagogies worldwide.

This course invites a rigorous, research-led approach to education that is as reflective as it is forward-thinking.

 

Course structure

Our Postgraduate Diploma is taken on a part-time basis. Through a blend of theory and practice, you’ll focus on how to support and ‘incubate’ creativity in the context of Waldorf Education, for yourself as an educator and for your students.

During the course, you’ll take two modules over two trimesters. The kinds of things you’ll study include:

  • Educational practice from generative principles
  • Creative curriculum design
  • Responding to an anthropology of childhood
  • Philosophical perspectives on creativity
  • Practical skills for creative practice both indoors and outdoors.

The course’s online sessions take place on Tuesdays UK time 16:30 – 19:30.

There are two modules, with 8 online sessions per module.

Module 1 starts  22 September 2026

Module 2 starts 19 February 2027

The Landcraft Retreats, to which attendance is obligatory, will be held in Herefordshire, on the following two weekends.

Course Lead

Teacher, educationalist and Course Lead, Paul has held senior leadership roles in schools and has extensive experience in Waldorf Education. He is the author of Dialogues of Destiny and is committed to strengthening creative, rigorous and values-led educational practice.

Dr. Rachel Sweeney

Senior Lecturer

Rachel has over 20 years’ experience in Higher Education, developing programmes across the creative arts, transformative education and environmental humanities. Her teaching supports educators to deepen practice through experiential learning, reflective inquiry and creative attention.

Landcraft Retreat

Alongside online lectures, seminars and tutorials, the course includes two in-person Landcraft Retreats: one in autumn and one in spring. These long weekends are a core part of the programme, giving you space to bring theory into practice in a warm, supportive environment rooted in Waldorf values.

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications do I need to apply for the course?

This course is open to all qualified teachers with QTS or an international equivalent.

How will I be assessed?

Each academic module is coursework assessed. You’ll submit a written assignment together with a critically reflective Professional Practice Portfolio, which may include:

  • Creative artefacts/project work.
  • A practice case study.
  • Examples of planning, teaching and assessment
How will I be taught?

Modules are delivered as a mixture of online lectures, seminars and tutorials.

Sessions are led by the course leaders and visiting tutors who are specialists in Waldorf Education and creative pedagogies. Individual tutorial support is offered alongside valuable opportunities for extended discussion with tutors and colleagues. Self-directed artistic and/or creative practice will also be an important part of your learning and development. Completion of a Professional Practice Portfolio will offer opportunities for the development of critically reflexive practice.

What level of English language do I need?

This course is designed for those who have the equivalent to IELTS 6.5 overall to join the course.  We have to be sure that your English is at a level for you to be able to prosper on the course.  Applicants can build up a body of evidence to support their English language abilities, and an iGCSE in English could form part of that, together with professional experience working/teaching in English etc.  But the easiest way, is for applicants to sit a recognised English language test. We can accept a wide range of English language qualifications as outlined here.

What ages could I teach with this qualification?

The course is designed for and attracts teachers from EYs up to KS4, and from roles across class / subject teachers, leaders and SENDCOs / TAs.
